When Dragon Harald Fairhair is launched summer 2012, we will start to investigate and experiment on rigging, sailing and rowing. This will bring forward a lot more knowledge about the things you ask about. Because you are right; little research has been done about these things. In 2013 we will publish a book that describes research on both the construction of the ship and the how such ships should be rigged and sailed.

I would like to know the exact differences we modify todays vikingships that we cant seem to figure out regarding how they did it. Because from what I read, I dont think they sailed like this at all. Those guys where smarter and must have used a different design for their sails. At least thats what the evidence shows Ive heard?

I try to keep myself updated on how the ship is coming about on your website. It looks very promising so far!

It would have been nice with a conclusion to the testing, i.e. which boat was selected - and what set it apart :)
A fabulous project by the way.

DragonFairHair should have a boat made of a dragon.
Cheers.
