Do you believe that Luke Skywalker is a real person, or that an evil man known as Darth Vader actually exists? Why would you not believe in such people? There are books about them. Do you require proof that Luke Skywalker does not exist? Is it necessary for you to gather evidence against Luke Skywalker's existence in order to not believe in him?

I don't believe in gods for the same reason I don't believe in anything else which I have not observed to have any effect on reality. I have no reason to believe such things are any different than Star Wars, Guild Wars, Star Trek, or any other number of fictional stories and accounts of people who do not actually exist in the real universe. Until I have evidence that these entities exist, I have decided to conclude that the likelihood of gods existing has approximately the same probability as the existence of Captain Picard.

First of all, I never said there were no gods. What I said was: "atheists don't believe in gods, and there is no evidence that gods exist."

I did not assert a claim that gods don't exist. This would be a very foolish thing to do, as I have no evidence that gods don't exist. I said that I don't believe that gods exist. This is a very different thing. I am not claiming facts about the status of the existence of gods. I am only explaining the extent of my doubt about the existence of gods.
