Dr. Paul Dougherty (http://www.DoughertyLaserVision.com) was one of the first surgeons in the US to perform LASIK, and has personally done more than 18,000 laser vision procedures since 1993. He also helped pioneer the exciting new generation of implantable lenses designed for patients with prescriptions too high for LASIK. He was one of just a small handful of principal investigators for the US FDA study of the Staar Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), which began in 1999. In fact, Dougherty Laser Vision has been designated an ICL Center of Excellence, having implanted more lenses than virtually any practice in the US.
Dr. Dougherty is also known as "the doctor's doctor," serving as the refractive surgeon of choice for countless medical professionals, including other LASIK surgeons. He also routinely treats LASIK patients with complications from other laser centers. He is on the ophthalmic clinical faculty at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute, and is one of just 40 surgeons worldwide to serve on the editorial board of the Journal of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Dougherty had LASIK himself in January 1997. As such, he was one of the first ophthalmologists in the US to have LASIK on his own eyes. Since then, he has had perfect vision without glasses or contacts. As a doctor who experienced the LASIK procedure first-hand, Dr. Dougherty can relate to patients' concerns with unique insight and perspective.
