I had exactly the same thing happen to me a Bedford Fire Station (Bedfordshire, UK) on my birthday. We were at attention waiting for the Guv to tell us what the drill was going to be when the lads on my left moved away, the lads on the right moved away and the Sub in the tower hosed me down!

Yep, its great to hear Control say "Multiple calls" then you know you've got a working job.

Bedford has changed a bit since I was there last. I was a Junior Fireman there in the mid-80's.

I despise our National Anthem but that was class.

I remember being on a coach in the 70's at the German-Austrian border at 2am with 35 others singing this song out at the top of our lungs much to the besument of the Border Guards.....I swear they wanted to shoot the Mad English!

I remember the first time going up in a TL at Bedford; the Sub didn't tell us that the cage would go up as you transfered your weight from it to the Tower....nearly had a heart-attack!

Certainly changed from the Hayes Station my Dad was first sent to when he joined the Middlesex Fire Brigade in the 50's; I've got a photo of it then and you would believe what the Drill Tower looked like!

My Dad was at the old Southall Fire Station in the early 60's. Its number then was 72 and was part of the Middlesex Fire Brigade; I've never been to the newer station.

That London Fire Brigade sign used to a Middlesex Fire Brigade sign back in the day.

My Dad was based here for many years and I'm looking forward to my first visit there since the 80's.
