    ZZ Top - Pearl Necklace

    Lyrics:

She's really upset with me again,

I didn't give her what she likes.

I don't know what to tell her,

    Don't know what...

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Pure blues riffs, just pushed Cosmically hard in ZZ's style. Still hitting the tour scene, but it's different.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience-Third Stone From The Sun

Legendary song from Jimi's debut album....."Are You Experienced?"

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Nobody in '66 knew what a Strat could do. Bloomfield said that he saw Hendrix doing all this "stuff" out of a little amp in Greenich Village before he made the trip with Chas to England. Every great guitarist, or musician for that matter, is unique--but Jimi was on a different wavelength. The ...

    Johnny Winter - Honky Tonk

Live at Piazza Duomo, Pistoia, Italy. July1º, 1988. with John Paris (bass), Tom Copton (drums).

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Just incredible playing. Tom Compton, a great rock drummer, in places just trying to keep up. Parris is a very good guitarist in his own right. There are a few other Tubes of Johnny at Pistoia in '88, all excellent. Most of the time Johnny has his eyes closed, just straight from the cosmos fa...

    JOHNNY WINTER - Dust My Broom [ live @ Letterman 1/12/12 ]

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

At least Dave squeezed Johnny in at the last second after blowing smoke with John McCain for most the show. In his true playing prime (long after the "Pop" years were over), Winter was there with the VERY best. I personally don't rate them, but pegging him at #74 is an insult. He had nights he...

West Bruce and Laing - Like A Plate (quad mix)

One of their most ambitious songs!

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Bruce especially, and West, were pushing the edge of the envelope with progressive rock on Plate. Pushing themselves too. I loved it of course, but the music-buying boppers in Junior High didn't get it and were buying "Kung-Fu Fighting" instead. Plate is a fine work that deserves play. West i...

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Thank you, Kritaki, for downloading Pollution Woman. Best song on "Why Don'tcha". According to experts (?), Pollution Woman was developed for a single to showcase the band's abilities, but was a bit too progressive. The entire album was underated, but power trios were fading out as dance music...

Jackson Browne - The Late Show (Late For the Sky - 1974)

    One of my favourite songs.

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

I was not an early fan of Jackson Browne--not sure why. I guess I was into guitarists at that 1970 stage. And we'd found by that time that great lyrics did not move the world. The world refuses to listen and it just moves on, crawling on its knees, dragging its skin off on the carpet. But I ...

Danny O'Keefe "Along For the Ride"

Danny O'Keefe's 1990 Beachwood/Chameleon Records video of "Along For the Ride"

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

@DigUl8r2 Hah! That's exactly how I first heard it. Travelling back and forth between Stuart and Okeechobee in my '81 Toyota Corolla (my "T" bird) with a terrible mono FM radio with one tiny speaker tuned to (I think) 98.7 "The Wizard" on the p.m. drive-time DJ shift. I ran a record departm...

The Yardbirds - For Your Love (1965) (Full version)

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Let's see..... Mr. Geoffrey Beck was 20 or 21, and this month at 67 he just received a well-deserved honorary degree. Love the strumming on the 12-string. The Yardbirds did a strange American tour (1967?) with Beck and Page where I've heard it said Jimmy often had to take lead guitar duties, an...

Caught this because I like Danny O'Keefe (catch his YouTube version). Denver probably did too. But this kinda' sucks. A bit disco. No heart in it, or the arrangement. They laid the track down, got it on the album--done. This is a great rock and roll song, with perfect spots for guitar break...

Love the comments....... No matter the critizism, what a GREAT rock song in the now "old fogey" style of blues-derived rock & roll. Kip Winger shows his college degree, and heavy experience (Alice Cooper, etc.), in music with complex melody and harmony lines. Reb Beach's leads soar over the mu...

@Fuzzelwuzzel A car is THE ABSOLUTE MOST DANGEROUS THING TO BE IN in an actual tornado. DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

The Byrds are almost wearing uniform uniforms here--McQuinn almost looks a little like a "militree man". The Byrds - Why (1966)

    LP: Fifth Dimension

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

The Mono version of this take has its own sound, a little further out there along with a mix including a stronger bass line and drum. This stereo mix is clearer, which is great in some ways--but distortion and a near phasing effect on the mono version are pretty darn cool. The Byrds were rockin...

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

A really good song I always liked. Comes across at first like a light pop song, but it's not--a pretty heavy number really. Very true that there is a lot of "Yes" progressive rock influence here. This number could be re-done by a heavier metal group in a different key, and it would come across...

Actually this is the first cut of "Blackmore's Night" that I have ever listened to--this after reading Blackmore's Wiki bio. Blackmore could always play these melodic passages. The Jeff Beck Group - I've Been Used

Sometimes... I sit alone and wonder.

    DonARen1950 DonARen1950 commented:

Mr. Beck brandishes the psychedelic StratoCaster on a song that really doesn't have a place for a typical lead break. He toys with playing along the melody line, then takes off for Pluto all on his own--and drags the bass player with him. Even Max Middleton gets left behind in the stardust. An...

My favorite 311 song--and I'm in my 60's, and yes I understand the song. Classic jazz riffs given a little psychedelic slant. All it needs is someone playing a solo on the chimes! Nice song. Why cut it down, or make it something it's not? Great imagination with the engineering too.
