Lorenzo Trujillo began his musical life at the age of four on the violin. By the time he was only six, he could be seen performing throughout Colorado and New Mexico; and by the age of 8, was winning solo competitions on violin and piano. As a young musical prodigy, Lorenzo rapidly picked up other instruments. By the age of 15, he could be seen performing a wide variety of classical, jazz, and folk music on violin, cello, piano, drums, guitar, bass, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, tuba, vihuela, and guitarron. During his high school years, he could also be seen conducting the high school orchestra and directing the high school jazz band. It wasnt until his junior year of high school that he started seriously playing the trumpet. Lorenzo was self-taught for two years before he began studying with local Denver, Colorado trumpeter Tony Rodriguez. It was with Tony that Lorenzo developed his concept of sound and also developed his tremendous range. Lorenzo's lessons consisted of more than 90 minutes of playing in more than 5 octaves. Lorenzo continued his study with Dr. Michael Tunnell at the University of Louisville Dr. Tunnell motivated Lorenzo's excitement about classical trumpet music and most importantly, practicing. With Doc T's guidance, Lorenzo developed into an extremely versatile trumpeter. During Lorenzo's graduate study at the California Institute of the Arts, he studied with Edward Carroll. Ed introduced new music to Lorenzo and helped him to realize some of the most difficult music in the trumpet's literature. Lorenzo most recently spent time studying with international trumpet virtuoso Jens Lindemann, where once again Lorenzo was challenged to stretch his technique and musicianship to another level.
Lorenzo Trujillo now holds a Bachelors Degree in Music from the University of Louisville, a Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of California Los Angeles. Lorenzo has performed and recorded with many musicians, artists, and ensembles on radio, and television, and frequently performs throughout the United States. He has also performed with international appearances in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. He has studied, performed and recorded a wide variety of classical, jazz, and popular styles. Lorenzo is also known as a creative musician whose work and collaborations have included tape music, live electronics, video, animation, and choreography. He has premiered 16 new works for written for trumpet. Lorenzo is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including full-tuition music scholarships at the University of Louisville, the California Institute of the Arts, the University of California Los Angeles, and the Manhattan School of music. Lorenzo has performed as a soloist with The Bakersfield Symphony and the UCLA Philharmonia. He has also performed on stage with The Saint Louis Philharmonic, American Youth Symphony, Jim Widners Saint Louis Jazz Orchestra, John La Barbera and his Big Band, Allen Vizzutti, Jens Lindemann, Travis Tritt, Michael MacDonald, Kid Rock, Slash, Gregory Hines, Taylor Dayne, Mary Wilson, Phil Woods, Curtis Fuller, Jimmy Heath, James Moody, Pat La Barbera, Bill Watros, Kenny Burrell, Gerald Wilson, Lew Soloff, Joe La Barbera, Harry Connick Sr., Poncho Sanchez, Papa Rodriguez, Sheila E., Charlie Haden, Vinny Golia, Delfeyo Marsalis, Bob Mintzer, Robin Eubanks, John Fedchock, Brad Leali, Nelson Rangell, Don Braden, Dick Lowenthal, Kenny Werner, Ron Miles, Marcus Printup, Edward Carroll, James Miller, David Rosenboom, Alejandro Fernandez, and has opened for Linda Ronstadt. Lorenzos professional experience also includes principal trumpet of the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, principal trumpet of the Symphonica del Barrio, principal trumpet of the American International Orchestra, principal trumpet of the Korean-American Symphony Orchestra, principal trumpet of The Sounding Brass, 2nd trumpet of The Brass Company, 1st trumpet with Yari Moré y Su Orquesta, 1st trumpet with Orquesta Tabaco y Ron, 1st trumpet with Charlie Hadens Liberation Music Orchestra, principal trumpet of the Music Theater Louisville, principal trumpet of the Derby Dinner Playhouse, principal trumpet of the JCC Symphony Orchestra, lead trumpet of the Jerry Tolson Jazz Orchestra, and 2nd trumpet with the Denver Jazz Orchestra. Lorenzo currently teaches at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri.
