If you love and are serious about photography, you should probably invest in a DSLR camera, such as the Canon Eos (which costs around $500-$600, it's the cheapest one there is.) I know that sounds like a LOT of money, especially since you don't get allowance. But it will be worth the investment :) Save up Christmas and birthday money, ask to do special favors for family, etc etc. :3
