Disturbed started as Brawl in the early 90's after multiple side projects involving Erich Awalt, Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren, and Steve Kmak. The band's only release as Brawl was a demo with four tracks on it.

Erich left and the remaining three members looked for a singer. David Draiman saw the ad and went to audition. David got the position and the band was re-named Disturbed.

They played many local shows in the mid to late 90's and released a demo in 1998. In 1999 the band signed to Giant records and recorded their debut album, 'The Sickness'. The album has since gone 4x Platinum and the album spawned four singles.

After starting the Music as a Weapon tour, and releasing M.O.L., a DVD about the band, the band went back to the studio to record their second album, 'Believe', which also proved to be a success eventually going 2x Platinum. A second Music as a Weapon tour was recorded and released and a live CD/DVD titled Music as a Weapon II.

Shortly after the release of Music as a Weapon II, Steve Kmak, the band's bassist, left the band due to personal differences with vocalist David Draiman. Shortly after they picked up John Moyer as a replacement.

In 2005, the band went to the studio to record 'Ten Thousand Fists', which has sold over 1 million copies in the U.S. The album was a success and the band continued touring and started Music as a Weapon III. They cancelled the second leg of the tour to start the recording of another studio album.

In late 2007, they recorded 'Indestructible', which was released June 2008. The album is on its way to going Platinum and the band is currently touring to promote the album. After the release, they recorded two live EP's, 'Live and Indestructible', and 'Indestructible in Germany'. Music as a Weapon IV finished in May 2009.

In 2010, a DVD (Decade of Disturbed) about the band was released. A ten year anniversary edition of 'The Sickness' came out in March. They released their fifth studio album, ASYLUM in summer of 2010. It chart at #1 and spawned four singles.

In July 2011, David Draiman announced that disturbed would be going on an "indefinite hiatus" and they would not be touring in 2012.

Disturbed will release a compilation album titled "The Lost Children" which will consist of 16 b-sides. It will be released November 8, 2011.
