In 2005 Bol directed and wrote his first feature 'Castingx'. This original and remarkable psycho-chiller-thriller was a dark voyage into voyeurism, seduction and revenge. It had its premiere at the Dutch Film Festival and was reviewed by Luc de Rooy (020, Oct. 2005) as 'an outline of a future masterpiece'. After this début he concentrated on his writing and directing skills. In 2007 he took part as a director in the Rutger Hauer Masterclass. This is where he worked together with world-class professionals such as Robby Muller and Rutger Hauer, which resulted in his short film 'Sweet Betty' which was shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival 2007. In January 2008 he produced, directed and wrote his second feature film 'BLINDSPOT'.
Ad Bol studied International Management at the VU University of Amsterdam and developed interests in art, philosophy and literature. It was at this time that he first saw Francis Ford Coppola's 'Apocalypse Now' and fell in love with movies. The film had a great impact on him: "It said that you could make an individual statement of high integrity and have that film be successfully seen by a mass audience all at the same time".
After graduating at the University, Bol decided to study art at the famous Rietveld Art Academy in Amsterdam. His major interests were painting and film making. This is where he started to experiment with 8mm films and where his work was noticed by a young and ambitious production company. They offered him a job as a director of TV-programs and commercials. Bol accepted and decided to focus completely on the art of filmmaking. In this period he developed his skills to create effective and striking film ideas for commercials. He directed films for international companies as Total, ING, ANWB, SNS Bank and more.
