Recognized as one of Singapore' s most prodigious Chinese chamber music ensembles, Ding Yi Music Company has invigorated audiences worldwide with world class performances and its distinctive approach to music-making. Formed in 2007 and originally known as Artssphere Chinese Chamber Ensemble, Ding Yi Music Company is committed to illuminating both traditional Chinese music repertoire and contemporary compositions locally and internationally.

Since its formation, the ensemble is enthused and supported by Ding Yi Music Company's Music Director, National Arts Council Cultural Medallion recipient and Singapore' s pioneer of Chinese orchestra music -- Mr. Tay Teow Kiat. Thriving under the exceptional direction of its conductor the esteemed Mr. Quek Ling Kiong, Ding Yi Music Company is an impressive constellation of Singapore' s best -- dynamic, talented, multi-award winning musicians, most of whom are alumni and current students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. As a self-governing ensemble, Ding Yi Music Company strives to empower its musicians by integrating them into every facet of the organization and literally changing the perception of musicians and ensembles.

The ensemble drew national attention when it won the First Prize in the 2008 Singapore National Chinese Music Competition Ensemble Category. Subsequently, the ensemble clinched First Prize in the prestigious 2009 Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, United Kingdom.

Ding Yi Music Company' s 2009-2010 season featured the collaborations with illustrious musicians including Guqin Maestro Chen Lei Li, Pipa performer Wong Chi-Ching and Steinway Pianist Wong See Siang. In 2010, Ding Yi Music Company' s was invited to represent Singapore in " The 4th Asean Festival of the Arts" in Philippines and at the "Shanghai Sun Island Multicultural Summit" and the "Shanghai World
Expo Singapore Pavilion" in Shanghai, China. Upon invitation by the National Tainan University in 2009, the ensemble embarked on a concert tour in Taiwan. Locally, the ensemble was featured at Hua Yi Chinese Festival of the Arts, 2010 Arts Award, President' s Command Concert.

Priding itself as a music laboratory for avant-garde and trans-genre works, Ding Yi Music Company premiered new compositions by award-winning British composer Mr. Eric James Watson, China Conservatory of Music Lecturer Mr. Cao Wen Gong, Singapore-born Chinese-American composer Jean Y. Foo and local composer Miss Emily Koh.

In addition to performing, Ding Yi Music Company is committed to educating the public, in the 2010, the ensemble presented two educational showcases " Introduction to China Folk Song" and " Feed Your Imagination -- Introduction to Chinese Music: Woodwind Instruments" to introduce and educate the audiences to Chinese
music, practices and performances.

Through the generous support of the National Arts Council (Singapore), private patrons and luminaries from the regional Chinese orchestra music circle, Ding Yi Music Company presents annual concerts at the Esplanade Recital Hall and appears regularly at NAFA Lee Foundation Theatre.
