READ THIS:This is another post directed at all of the hardcore MLG gamers out there who trash social gameplay. Anyways, the gist of your criticism of social gameplay is that killing noobs is easy, proves nothing, and is less impressive/entertaining as a result. And the gist of the comeback from all the casual gamers out there is that they merely play the game for fun and as a result, their montages aren't really meant to prove anything. I, of course, agree with this point, but I feel it needs a lot more elaboration which I'm going to do right now.Chances are when you picked up Halo, you didn't know about MLG and if you did, you weren't an avid supporter. Even if you're naturally competitive like I am, you probably didn't start off playing the game by jumping straight into the MLG playlist. You probably started off in the campaign and eventually worked your way into social or normal ranked matchmaking, getting a feel for all the weapons and practicing with your friends in custom games. You probably dicked around in Forge, played Warlock swords, or tried mastering that one superbounce you saw on YouTube at least once. And then you eventually got good at the game, learned about MLG, and started playing tons of it and following their events.First, I would like to point out one major fact: If you do not have fun doing something, you will not continue doing it. All of you hardcore MLG gamers out there, you still play for the game for fun. It's just that you need the game to be a constant challenge of your skill in order to have this fun. There's two things that keep you playing the game: 1) How fun it is and 2) Your drive to win. Now let's say you lose the first thing, the enjoyment you experience while playing this game. Would you still play the game anymore? No, of course not. Nobody in their right mind, not even pros, would continue doing something they don't enjoy just because they enjoy winning. If you're naturally competitive but don't find Halo fun anymore, you would find something else to win at, something that you enjoy. This being said, all of us Halo players, we're all really the same. No matter how we play the game, we still play it for fun. Even some of the people who play MLG still do it purely for fun, not caring about whether or not they win or lose or their skill level. Hell, I started playing MLG nonstop in Halo 2 because I fucking hate the SMG. I don't believe a single person originally picked up Halo and video games in general because he said to himself, "I need to something to win at to prove myself." We all started playing the game casually and some of us decided to take it to the next level while some of us didn't. So what's wrong with that? Let's face it. The vast majority of you who trash social gameplay will not go pro or amount to anything off of your skill at Halo. This is an undeniable fact. So what's the point of trashing others for how they play the game and criticizing their skill? So you're possibly better than these montage makers at the game and you play it differently. So what? Does this make you a superior person somehow? No, because chances are your skill at the game, no matter how amazing it is, won't mean jack shit in 5-10 years. So why is pointing out the low skill level of people featured in montages of such dire importance? Well, I honestly have no fucking clue. Many gamers have more fun killing noobs than playing people of their own skill level. And some of these gamers make videos featuring these experiences for their personal enjoyment/sense of achievement and desire to entertain others. These people will always exist no matter what happens. So if you're going to leave a complaint on a montage just because the gameplay is from social, just stop, it's pointless. No matter how much you flame them, they're going to continue playing the game as they see fit and making videos of themselves while they're enjoying the game. I, along with many other casual gamers out there, respect the passion you put into this game we all know and love and a result, we respect gamers whose montages are mainly if not entirely MLG gameplay. So please, all we're asking is for you to remember your roots and return the favor and if you can't, at least just leave us alone.
