How this drawing came about: ...
@kenobr Hi! It took me bit more than 50 hours of drawing time. I actually only use pencils. However, these pencils (caran d'ache) come in different shades of grey that corresponds to their grade - so the soft pencils are almost black on the outside. That's probably why it looked like charcoal. ...

@TheBlackKnight07 Thank you again! =) I thought you asked a very legitimate question in a very respectful way. I ask myself the same thing from time to time =) I am thrilled to hear that you feel it is worth that much. I wish I could show the original better.

How this drawing came about: ...
@TheBlackKnight07 Thank you. Really, it's that high because that's how much I value my time and energy. Is it worth that much? Depends on your dispensable income. But for less I rather relax or do something for myself. That's not saying that I will always price that way, but for now, that's it...

@firataydineyup - well, the paper is actually really thick so that it doesn't warp from the partly heavy pencil lines. So, I do have the original pic next to the drawing, but not beneath it.

@DMPFace For peets sake? I haven't heard that expression in a long time, i must remember to use it more. =) No, I didn't use a computer program. I did use a grid, but other than that this is actually a real pencil drawing. You can view it larger, and others like it on my website dietkefowler/com...

@WcOx5 Thank you! The paper is actually very thick matboard - not very smooth or very rough, really. But I do treat the surface of the paper as though it were sandpaper, in a way. With soft pencils, you can darken the ridges of the paper surface that are higher up, while using the harder pencil...

@BackToPass Hi. I'd start with soft or medium. the softer it is the darker the lines, the easier to erase (because it doesn't scratch), and the easier to smudge (which you'd definitely want to experiment with). Have fun!

@akhanian Thank you!! In this case, the fun part was actually that the photograph had been copied so many times that it had gotten a "grid" look, and when I drew it, I didn't drew that, so in a way, it looks "smoother" than the original. It was a LOT of fun to do this one.

@Saranghae1st yeah, i think a few weeks - would have to go back and look at the timestamps on the videos. In another drawing I videotaped, I made sure to always wear the same sweater for drawing... not sure which one is preferable... (?)

@ajaralampidis I do use grids in the beginning. i didn't use to, but it just helps speed up a process that is already very time consuming. the grid is completely off the paper and the original photo by "45 seconds into the video" - and I think the magic really happens after that. but, opinions di...
