If it still releases the water after filling it may be that there is lime buildup around the hole that the plunger fits against causing it to not close completely and allowing the water to run out. If the drive is out of warranty and you'd like to continue using the LaCie enclosure, you could open it and replace the failed drive (or even both drives). Probably be cheaper than buying another external hard drive.
