About this user

Desert Sin was created at a time when Middle Eastern Dance (M.E.D.) experimentation was just beginning to emerge. Branching even further outside of the traditional forms of dance by combining social commentary, intricate story telling, puppetry, and more, the work of Desert Sin was at first considered shocking within the M.E.D. community. Over the years, reaching beyond just the M.E.D. communities, pushing further into the realms of theater, and with varied collaborators, Desert Sin branded itself as one of the prominent theatrical dance companies in the US.

While under the name Desert Sin, Artistic Director, Djahari Clark, produced and co-created "Musée des Femmes -- Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque", a full-length theatrical dance spectacle, which ran to sold out crowds and rave reviews in 2004 and 2005 at Hollywood's Historic Ivar Theater. Then came "Sita's Fire", a tale of monstrous women, which sold out in advance in 2006. In 2008, "Musée" enjoyed a successful 8-month off-Broadway run at The Zipper Factory Theater in New York with one of Desert Sin's original members, Cassandra Siegler, jumping on board as a co-producer.

In 2009, Djahari created and directed "Twitchers" at Brooklyn's House of Yes. "Twitchers" is a work in progress about birds, dreams, and women who take flight. "Twitchers" was described as "absolutely enthralling and fanciful", "incredibly inventive", "awe inspiring", and "pure childlike wonder". "Twitchers" proudly sold out its performances and Djahari looks forward to the reopening of this work.
