@bayoubobby In 2 person mechanics, when there is a runner at 1st, the Umpire is in the B position which is between 1st and 2nd on the grass, I'm assuming there was a man on 3rd because he was somewhere near the B, or C position between 2nd and 3rd. Otherwise, I don't know why he was near 2nd base...

The Ref, is behind the offense. The Umpire is 5-7 yards behind the defense. He's looking at the Center and 2 guards and then watching the line play as it develops. If he could have gotten out of the way, he would've. The running back cut back and he had nowhere to go. I've been there guys.
