Derek Renfroe first picked up a guitar in 2007. Since then, it has been a wild ride. Derek is now a notable local musician at the tender age of 16. He uses an 8 string guitar for most performances, citing its "wide tonal capabilities" for helping to produce his unique blend of melodic and technical playing. Derek has performed alongside the Steve Miller Band, and opened for both Gerald Albright and Kirk Whalum on separate occasions. He is currently in the process of writing a second album with Glasgow Symphony. Renfroe comments that "the sky is the limit, and I know that I have plenty more in me." In the short time that the musician has attained such accolades, it is hard to dispute his statement.
