@BrickLaneBetty: I thought so too until I became involved in inducting Laura Nyro. I had the same experience as clubmidnightsun (below). I just discovered 2 months ago that Laura Nyro actually wrote some of my favorite songs, and have been listening to her music almost non-stop. She died relativ...

@pontello3 If I remember correctly, it meant something hard on the outside and very soft inside, Laura's image of New York.

Wasn't this a completely different interpretation of Sweet Blindness? Sweet and sad at the same time. "Four leaves on a clover; I'm just a shade of a bit hungover..." Thanks for sharing the pictures and video.

    Laura Nyro: Free Thinker

    Free Thinker by Laura Nyro

    DenJamMac3 DenJamMac3 commented:

This song is completely different from the Laura Nyro music I have been listening to for the last week (essentially every song on You Tube). What a new dimension. It reminds me of Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns, but is not derivative of her style, if that makes sense. Another amazing fea...

Wedding Bell Blues (live) Laura Nyro

    Monterey Pop performance

    DenJamMac3 DenJamMac3 commented:

I think the 1967 Moneterey festival was dominated by Jimi Hendrix. It could have been very easy to overlook Laura in all the Hendrix hoopla. But we see from the vide that they did not boo her; they applauded. Thank god; she went on to a brilliant career, that I am just now appreciating. There is ...

I should get the CDs today or tomorrow and hopefully the books before Thursday, when I leave on a business trip. I am going to lay aside War & Peace, which I am reading, to read her biography. I cannot wait another 900 pages of Tolstoy to learn more about this wonderful woman.
