David Atlee Philips was a CIA Agent who is believed to be the real identity of "Maurice Bishop" whom Oswald met with prior to being framed for the assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas. Philips Died on July 7, 1988 born in Fort Worth, Texas, on 31st October, 1922. he was educated at William and Mary College and Texas Christian University. During the Second World War. He also served as a nose gunner in the United States Air Force. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1950. Over the next few he became involved in clandestine operations in Guatemala against President Jacobo Arbenz. The plot against Arbenz became part of Executive Action (a plan to remove unfriendly foreign leaders from power). Tracy Barnes was placed in charge of what became known as Operation Success. He was appointed to run the propaganda campaign against Arbenz's government. According to Phillips he initially questioned the right of the CIA to interfere in Guatemala. However, Barnes convinced him that it was vital important that the Soviets did not establish a "beachhead in Central America". The CIA propaganda campaign included the distribution of 100,000 copies of a pamphlet entitled Chronology of Communism in Guatemala. They also produced three films on Guatemala for showing free in cinemas. Phillips, along with E.Howard Hunt, was responsible for running the CIA's Voice of Liberation radio station.
