I know exactly what this song is about, and I'm not Scottish (at least not entirely), but my wife is. I was in the 1st Cavalry in Vietnam 68 & 69. I've watched the movie "We Were Soldiers" so many times I can recite it in my sleep. I fully understand.

My Father served in the US Army - Philippines, and my Uncle in the US Navy in WWII. Another Uncle served as a US Marine mortar man in Korea, and myself as an Army 1st Cavalry Infantryman / RTO in Vietnam 1968-1969. This really hits home.

I was there in 68 and 69 as a draftee. I didn't want to be there, but it was my duty and I did it. I realize the futility of this war in particular, as the general population never stood behind us. You need support... we got none. And the reception home was far from a "thank you". Am I bitter? No...
