@LaLaGrunge That's unfair. For one, synthpop is not really a big thing. Sure, the killers may have done it, but it didn't take over the music scene. Secondly, and more importantly, most of the Strokes album isn't at all like this. Say what you want about the album, but it's pretty diverse.

It doesn't matter even if this version is better. Joy Division wrote the song. It is far easier to make a slight improvement to a great pre-existing song than to make a great one from scratch.

It's not a big deal if a later version's is better. Is the man who came up with the wheel barrow better than the man who came up with the wheel and the... large pot object. Therapy already had the outline of what to do. All they had to do was improve, not actually create.

@neutral2100 I find it funny that out of the five bands you named concerning nirvana, two of them sound nothing like nirvana (green day and radiohead) and Kurt cobain vocally hated (pearl jam and guns n' roses). Only the pixies did Nirvana and they still sound pretty different from them.
