To answer some of your questions. I use a program called Adobe After Effects. For editing I use Adobe Premiere. For some extra's I normally go to Photoshop to create like textures. The easiest way to learn to do your own effects is to not ask me to describe how I do every visual effect in detail ... cuz trust me that would give the both of us a headache in the end.
To get some knowlege of Adobe After Effects try going to the official website and watch adobe's interface tutorials which can show you what you have and what to do with the program. I wish you the best of luck!
Lately I've been busy with projects of my own and work, which still cut back my time a lot. School is out for me so that's a plus .. but still. So I can't answer all of your e-mails but I try to do my best. I hope you understand, but I know you will.
