About this user
My early photography focused mainly on the deserts and mountains of the American West. I've always been drawn to the stark landscapes and solitude they more than offer.
As I work to develop as an artist, I'm learning to keep my eyes open for dynamic images that surround us each day. It matters little whether the shot originated at an alpine lake in the High Sierra, or rusted train tracks east of Downtown Los Angeles. The goal for me remains the same. If my work garners an emotional response from the viewer, I consider it a success.
Photography, in my opinion, has little to do with the old adage of "being in the right place at the right time". Rather, the most lasting and impressionable images are results of preparation, time, and pre-visualization. Before the shutter clicks, I aim to develop a concept of what the viewer should feel when he or she first views the print. Details of camera models, focal lengths of lenses, film vs. digital, etc., have less to do with the success of an image, I suggest, than putting in the effort to ensure that each photograph tells a compelling story in a unique way.
