-Thomas Gabriel is the lead terrorist from the movie Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard, played by Timothy Olyphant.
Gabriel starts everythign off by breaking into the FBI facility's computer system with the help of some hackers. From there he finds out about John McClane (an NYPD cop played by Bruce Willis) and Matthew Farrell (a hacker played by Justin Long) and plans to kill them for what they know about his plan.
Gabriel sends wave after wave of his henchmen to kill these two but to no avail. Everything gets a lot more personal when John McClane runs over Gabriel's girlfriend Mai Lihn (played by Maggie Q).
-While John and Matthew are trying to take refuge and learn more about Gabriel, he shows up on the computer only to show John that he has his daughter. As the two of them try and catch up with Gabriel, Matthew hacks into the terrorist system and locks everything down which leads to Matthew's kidnapping by Gabriel and his henchmen. Gabriel tries to fix everything in a warehouse where at gunpoint he makes Matthew break back into the terrorist program, but John McClane spoils the party, like always.

-As for Dennis Quaid's character, I'm a bit confused myself, but what I gleaned was that, well, first off, he IS Gallo - just older (Gallo is the young guy messing with Dennis Quaid the whole movie). When the ship first took off, everything went fine and they did their rotations, but on one rotation the skeleton crew of that rotation, including Gallo, received the message from Earth that Earth and all its inhabitants had been wiped out - that they were "all that's left". This news drove Gallo into pandorum which caused him to kill his fellow cremmates, and basically destroy a lot of systems and such on the ship - dooming humankind. Then he went to sleep humself, presumably.
