About this user

Born in 1989, Dan Lis is a composer based out of West Hartford, CT USA. After early studies on cello and composition, he attended The Hartt School of Music, where he officially took up jazz guitar as his instrumental focus. At Hartt he studied composition with Alphonse Izzo, David Macbride, Robert Carl, Ken Steen, and Tawnie Olson, and jazz guitar with Rich Goldstein.

His music embraces a wide range of styles and techniques, including normally notated, improvised, electronic, collaborative, and incidental works. Important features include an interest in asymmetric time signatures, freedom in rhythm, modality, triads, and percussive effects. He has written for solo, chamber, and orchestral instrumentations.

At Hartt, he has been the recipient of honors and scholarships for both musical and academic achievement. He has also be an active member of the community in presenting at colloquiums, teaching an afterschool program at a local middle school, and working at the Hartt Community Division.

After graduation from Hartt in May 2011, he plans on working more and applying to grad schools for the Fall 2012 semester. For more information, please see his Curriculum Vitae (on his website under "Personal").
