I have always had an interest in following American politics. I grew up in family that was heavily influenced by right-wing doctrine.
In my late teens and early 20's I knew all the conservative talking points and liked Fox News' re-enforcement of my views.
I thought about political issues and ideas a lot. Trying to determine what was right or wrong, or what the correct path may be. Questioning things.
I began to take a closer look, research history, open my mind.......... the whole conservative ideology fell apart. It is nothing but an appeal to individualistic greed in order to have people vote against their own self-interest.
September 11th. I knew the world would never be the same. Preemptive wars, loss of privacy, freedom, habeas corpus, Halliburton, corporate welfare, corruption, government cover-ups, no accountability for the rich and powerful..........
Since 911 I have watched the American Empire begin to crumble. I realize now that the seeds of destruction were actually planted much earlier (circa the Regan era), but 911 and the Bush Admin. definitely took lying, corruption, cronyism and deceit to a new level.
During the Bush years I continued to follow politics. And consumed media from a much wider array of sources. Alex Jones, Micheal Savage, Bill O'reilly and other right-wing talkers, Air America, Cable News channels,Thom Hartmann, Cenk Uygur, Chris Hedges, Noam Chomsky, to name a few.

My political views at this point in time are most closely aligned with progressives. I believe that the Republican party is completely corrupt and has no interest whatsoever in the well-being of US citizens. They are the political face of corporate and elite power. This group frames issues in the media and makes no apologies for transferring massive amounts of wealth from the working-class, and middle-class to the very richest among us.
The Republicans have been very successful in their endeavors over the last 30 years. Thanks, in part, and ever increasingly, to........... the Democrats.
Over the last 100 years, the Democrat party has provided an outlet for positive action. For instance, after the Great Depression, FDR introduced sweeping and meaningful reforms, to the financial sector as well instituting a social safety net for the country. Other things worth mentioning are the weekend, 8 hour work days, overtime, benefits, child labor laws, the Civil Rights Act, Social Security, Woman's right to vote.................These are the type of policies which lead to the emergence of a growing and thriving middle class.
It is worth noting that Republicans fought against all of these measures. I honestly can't think of a positive piece of legislation the they have passed. It seems their goal has been Neo-feudalism for many decades.

But the Democratic Party of today is not the Democratic Party of yesteryear. It is empty shell of it's former self. In rhetoric the parties platform sounds much the same but in action they behave like conservatives from the 1990's. At best.
I was aware of the rampant corruption
of both parties. And I certainly didn't expect sweeping change. But, even still, Barrack Obama proved to be a massive disappointment. He has completely failed to challenge the system, and made only feeble attempts at reform. No investigations of the Bush Admin., Guantanamo still open, warrantless wire-tapping, TSA, Afghanistan, Iraq, now Libya, extends the Bush tax cuts, etc.. And, worse than all that, he publicly accepts the Republicans narratives and gives them everything they want even when they do not ask for it.
This is, of course, because Obama is the product of self-sustaining power system. He never would have ascended the Presidency otherwise. He did not get there challenging the system. He serves the system.

The United States is an Empire in decline. It reached it's pinnacle just a few decades ago, but is now in an accelerating death spiral. Most of society is apathetic to what is going on. They are entertained, they have a full belly. Others know something is definitely wrong but they are confused about what is. But, they suspect it is because of the welfare state, bureaucrats, illegal aliens,or socialism.

We are living in very interesting and turbulent times. More entertaining than any Hollywood movie, and as monumental as anything that has happened in history. The US political system and predatory capitalism have fused as one. This monster grows more dangerous and ruthless each day. Consuming what ever it has to to sustain it's bloated bulk.
But that is just it, this cruel beast is running out of fodder. It has devoured foreign countries. Threatening. Stealing resources. Killing and displacing millions of people. Oppressing............. And now it's coming home.
So what is going to happen? What happens when a dying Empire with an enormous military and a police-state apparatus fully embraces fascism??

We will see...and I bet it won't be pretty.
