Hello interwebz (: my name is Lauren, and like most people who view my channel I am completely and totally horse addicted. I have a pony, an appaloosa named Cochise. He is 14.2hh and the most noble boy I've ever met. I've been riding at an intermediate-advanced level, although I've never done competitions due to my ponies condition. Some time next year I am planning to get a new pony, since Cochise is a western pleasure horse and my dad has bonded with him and wants a stout trail horse whereas I want to start English. Cochise has been through a lot in his life, and his story will be gladly but sorrowfully explained.

Cochise was found on a craigslist ad for $100. His picture showed a very skinny, dehydrated and miserable stallion with skin that sagged underneath him off his bones. Encouraged that i could help him we went over to the barn to check him out. Cochise was in the back pasture with weeds taller than him and no grass enclosed in barbed wire fencing. He had a halter made of prickly manila rope, which wasn't even a halter at all. He weighed a skinny 750ibs and the only reason he was alive was because of the testosterone that was in his body due to being a stud. Cochise had severe summers itch, resulting in almost no mane and tail at all and sores all over his neglected body. His old owners smiled and waved their hands before saying " I don't know why he's so skinny! We feed him once a week!" They also stated that he was not broke and needed a man to handle him. We quickly shook hands and took him home, not bearing to leave him there. A couple months later Cochise gained 200 pounds, filling him out and making him plump. I also started working him in the round pen, finally we joined up and I was able to get on him. After a few weeks I trained him W/T/C and now he is making his way as a successful trail horse that I know my dad will enjoy. He was also gelded. Cochise is happy and healthy in his new home, his mane grown to a Mohawk and his tail growing long, his sores are also slowly starting to reduce. The only thing wrong with him now is the lack of muscle he has on his chest and I don't know if that will ever get better, he simply doesn't have the breast shape and muscle, just flab.
I am thirteen years old and I rescued and trained my first horse, It is the most amazing thing in the world! Cochise has become an unforgettable, irreplaceable family member in my life. These pictures shown to the side are of his progress, he's getting there! Hopefully soon he will maintain full health!
