About this user
Detroit Metropolitan Credit Union opened its doors on November 2, 1929 in the Lafayette Building on Michigan Avenue, between Griswold and Cass. Only three days earlier, the nation had experienced the Great Stock Market Crash of '29. Over the next five years, many financial institutions closed their doors, never to open again. DMCU remained open, and has continued to serve the financial needs of City of Detroit employees.
DMCU eventually moved to the basement of the Old City Hall, then to the City-County Building. DMCU finally outgrew that location and built the current facility in 1968 at 1480 East Jefferson.
Effective May 01, 2009, membership at the Detroit Metropolitan Credit Union is open to any person employed by the City of Detroit and family members, as well as any resident who live , work , attend school or worship in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb county.
