Yeah I was there in SantaPod England that day... Bad accident and nobody deserves that shit but he had a brand new car and was supposed to to a half pass, crewing for him was Carl Ruth who mentioned to me that Darrel was somewhat emasculated by the fact that a female driver Monica Oberg (who by the way was back then one of Europe's fastest TopFuel drivers) was gonna give it her all. Darrel even lent his neck restraint to a UK TopFuel driver and reluctantly didn't ask for it back for the run, he crashed in a never before tested car because of his chauvinistic attitude. He was overheard saying to Carl Ruth that he's not gonna let a girl beat him!! Sorry but that's how it was, first hand!
