@PooeyBum11 The ability to suffer is not the capacity that corresponds to the interest in life. The ability to suffer corresponds to the interest in not being treated cruelly for example.
A potential capacity for the experiences of personhood corresponds to the interest in life. We don't kill t...

@Paxmax Umm how is a miscarriage analogous to an elective abortion? People die of natural causes all the time and no one is prosecuted e.g. the sick and elderly.
So I see no inconsistency with accepting a natural miscarriage yet condemning an elective abortion.

@PooeyBum11 Well as I said in the previous two responses I think potential capacity is a morally relevant consideration even if it should not carry the same weight as actual capacities.
It would be wrong to kill any animal that has or has will have similar capacities to personhood. Perhaps its w...

@bradq: Law, commonsense and logic. All enforceable rights are derived from a source of authority (generally law) whether it be the Constitution, a Statute, the Common Law or Equity. They do not just exist because they rely on an enforceable corresponding duty to give them content.

@bradq Yes try enforcing those natural rights in a court of law, you'll be laughed out of the courtroom.
Natural rights have zero content because there is no corresponding enforceable obligation on anyone to respect, protect or fulfil.

Rory fitzgerald of the huffington post says dawkins is responsible for atheist crimes
LOL so the fact he does not decry crimes committed by persons who were atheists makes him responsible in the same way the pope, who is actually RESPONSIBLE for monitoring the behaviour of members of his church, refused to take action over the crimes they committed.
You don't see the distinction?...
