To give you a brief background about myself, I am a committee consisting of the 31 Division I multi-sport conferences, with one student-athlete representative speaking on behalf of their entire student-athlete conference body. My members serve as student-athlete liaisons between the happenings on campus, conference and national levels. Members are selected by the Division I SAAC Administration Committee from a pool of three nominees from each of the represented conferences. The Division I Leadership Council ratifies the appointment and each student-athlete serves a two-year term. A student-athlete representative may be re-appointed to a second, two-year term, however, the student-athlete may only serve up to one year after exhausting their eligibility.
Each representative is responsible for gathering feedback and reporting out on behalf of their conference, as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educational information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, DI SAAC speaks on the behalf of the entire DI student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure. Currently, one DI National SAAC representative sits on each of the NCAA cabinets and association-wide committees in order to provide the student-athlete perspective on related issues. In addition, the DI SAAC Chair and Vice Chair are members of the DI Leadership & Legislative Councils, in order to provide feedback and input on legislation, governance concerns, and membership decisions. It is through these two mechanisms that NCAA Division I student-athletes offer input and assist in shaping the proposed legislation and other policies by which their division is governed.
I work very hard to represent the voice of the Division I student-athlete. My committee takes great pride in the well-being of all student-athletes.
