Might I suggest, for defense training, the grass on Route 26? Basically everything there is a Sandslash (And what isn't is usually a Dodrio), which gives +2 defense.

However, since they're ~lvl30, you get a few more exp points, which is why I give an exp share (or 2) to party pokemon. That gives...
