FAQ:
Q: Where can I get craft supplies?
A: At any craft store: Spotlight,Blick, etc.
Q: What brands of polymer clay do you like to use the most?
A: Premo, Fimo Soft, Sculpey.
Q: How long do you bake your charms for?
A: For about 15 minutes at 260˙F.
Q: What is TLS?
A: TLS is Translucent Liquid Sculpey. It's basically a bakeable liquid polymer medium. It's good for bonding together polymer clay, and works great as icing or drizzle on polymer clay sweets.
Q: What types of glaze do you use to glaze charms?
A: I use Sculpey Satin glaze, and Sculpey Gloss Glaze.
Q: What's a tip if you are painting charms?
A: For painted charms (charms made with polymer clay and painted over), it is easiest to use tweezers or clampers and clamp them to the eyepin on the charm. This makes the painting process LOADS easier. Also, another tip is to be patient (: The coats of paint take a while to dry, so make sure each coat dries completely before you paint on another layer, because then the color will become more solid and less opaque.
Q: How do you keep your charms clean?
A: The best way to get rid of dust/lint that sticks onto your charms are to work on a clean surface, and wash your hands before working. It's also great to carry around handy-wipes so you can wipe your hands between working with white polymer clay and darker colors of polymer clay. Trust me, it makes a big difference!
Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: A Sony CyberShot.
Q: What is amigurumi?
A: Amigurumi is a Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures.
Amigurumi techniques work great, and are easy for beginners!
Q: Do you prefer using cold porcelain or polymer clay?
A: Well, it really depends on what I'm making. For deco pieces, cold porcelain is definitely the way to go. Cold porcelain is an air drying clay that can be colored by adding acrylic paints. If you are making charms however, I definitely prefer using polymer clay because there is a wider variety of colors and polymer clay charms overall are more durable. Not everyone has access to cold porcelain in craft stores, but polymer clay can be found at almost any craft store.
Q: What is paper clay?
A: Paper clay is a lightweight clay. The name comes from it's texture: paper clay feels like paper. Paper clay is an air dry clay, and becomes 'squishy' when it is dried. You can purchase different colors of paper clay from Daiso, and they can be colored with acrylic paints as well.
Q: HELP!! I messed up the face that I painted on my charm, what can I do?!
A: This question has been asked ALOT. Don't panic! If you used acrylic paint to paint on your 'kawaii' face on your charm, you're all good to go. Just simply take a cotton-swab dipped in nail polish remover and wipe off the mess-up. It should come right off.
Q: How do I paint 'kawaii' faces on my charms?
A: You can do two things:
1. Purchase a Sharpie Poster Paint Marker (can be found at Michaels). These can make your job easy, because it is a paint marker, so you can easily draw on your face. BUT, you have to be patient and very careful to make sure the Sharpie dries completely before touching it, or else if will smudge. Another CON is that Sharpie Poster Paint can not be removed with anything, so you have to be careful not to mess up!
2. You can paint your faces will acrylic paints. I do prefer this method, even though it takes more practice. To paint on the face you can use a toothpick or a fine-tip brush. The PRO is that you can always use nail polish remover to remove any mess-ups!
