I looked for this film long before YouTube or IMDB with only the title "Invention of

Destruction" to the final title and its fabulously gifted director, Karel Zeman. It is a unique treasure with period illustrations, animations and live p...

Somehow "staccatissimo" doesn't seem to serve Brahms well, nor the old-timey tendency to strike chords at different times with the hands. It could be appropriate with a few other nineteenth century composers but certainly not Brahms.

What a pleasure to hear Marcel Ciampi again! Unlike so many French pianists of his time, his sound was full (and orchestral) without the little pin-pricks of a notier style, the so-called "jeu perle". We did some Debussy together back when in Paris and his ideas and insights into the composer w...

This seems to have most of the elements of pop music - cliche, endless repetition and the obvious. There might be some talent here - certainly in the performance - but there's not much to say for the composer.

Everybody, including the brilliant soloist, needs our heartiest applause! This high school orchestra has managed a much better performance than several professional ones I've heard in the past. These people worked - and it can be heard!
Bravo!

Alexander Glazunov - Concert Waltz No 2 (Main Theme)
Lovely main theme of Glazunovs awesome Concert Waltz No 2. Played by myself.
The clarinet part and background are my own "creation".

Much of the charm of this lovely waltz lies in its lyricism, so beautufully outlined when the rhythm is as strict as it would be with orchestra, its original setting. Introducing too much stopping and going (when the "rubato" detracts) only pulls away from its charm.

This is breath-taking. The ideas are exceptionally new and invigorating. The orchestra (or the conductor) didn't serve or perform with the pianist at the end, though, and that's truly a shame. Bravo!

How delightful this interpretation! The technique is rock-solid and there is a marvelous joyousness throughout. I'd forgotten how good this is. Thank you, sir!

Ah, to hear Mme Darre play again - AND LIVE! There's an old recording - from the thirties, I think - of all five concerti and it's absolutely magic.
