But that's assuming that time and causation are linear. Since we haven't mastered the 4th dimension, we don't know that with absolute certainty. So there's no guarantee that the present I return to is the same present I started in or a different present than I started in. The past I traveled back to might have been an alternate past and, therefore, the present I return to might be the same present I had come from. And then there would be 2 identical collector's edition gold Doctor Who pocket watches in existence within the same time frame. And some alternate universe version of me would have to deal with my problems. :)
