Like any undemocratic government trying to stifle dissent, the Ahmadinejad regime in Iran has tried to repress controversial artists. Given that those who display their art on the street for everyone to see have been particularly targeted, it comes as no surprise that the work of Tehran Ratz, a dynamic duo of graffiti artists, has been banned. In this short film, the members of the Tehran Ratz discuss their efforts to use graffiti to challenge the legitimacy of the Iranian regime and to change international assumptions about their country's people.

In 2007, thousands of Burmese monks joined in a massive uprising against their country's authoritarian military regime. The Saffron Revolution, as it came to be known, brought the attention of the world to the Southeast Asian country where the flow of information is tightly controlled. Though the uprising did not overthrow the military government, many of those involved in it consider it a success. "The Saffron Revolution showed the world the cruelty of this regime. This is one tangible victory," says monk U Gawsita. Since the protests, pressure from the international community has mounted, and many countries support trade embargoes against the regime. Bowing to international pressure in November 2010, the government released Aung Sui Kyi, the Nobel-prize winning leader who had been under house arrest for 15 of the previous 21 years. Despite these efforts, the regime maintains power with the help of loyal trade partners China and India, along with hundreds of millions of dollars per year from oil companies Chevron and Total. This short film both explores the impediments to democratic reform in Burma and highlights the brave leaders of the Saffron Revolution. As one monk says, "If you use only one hand, nothing happens. But with thousands of hands, things will change."

By mid-2010, the war in Afghanistan had arguably passed Vietnam as the longest war in the history of the United States. At the war's outset many U.S. citizens supported the invasion as a means of holding responsible those who orchestrated the attack on the World Trade Center. However, as time has passed and more American troops and Afghan civilians die, the U.S. government has struggled to maintain popular support by emphasizing other justifications for continuing the costly occupation. One of the most controversial concerns is the plight of women. Many commentators, some of them Afghan women, argue that the presence of coalition forces in their country has allowed them to be more active in politics and civil society. But not all women agree, and many find the country just as dangerous as ever. Furthermore, some believe that, in reality, the U.S. is far more concerned with the nearly $1 trillion worth of untapped mineral deposits that the U.S. discovered in June 2010. This short film allows women in Afghanistan to give voice to their reasons for opposing an ongoing occupation.

"We are not entertainers, we are sound scientists." - Kraftwerk
Modulations is a feature-length documentary produced by George Gund and directed by Iara Lee which captures a moment in history where humans and machines are fusing to create today's most exciting sounds.
It traces the evolution of electronic music as one of the most profound artistic developments of the 20th century. By cutting back and forth between avant garde composers, Kraftwerk's innovative synthesizer drones, Giorgio Moroder's glacial Euro-disco, Afrika Bambaataa's electro-funk and Prodigy's current worldwide superstarstardom, Modulations celebrates, replicates and illuminates the nomadic drift of the post-human techno sound.
The film examines the kids who have turned the turntable into a musical instrument, disillusioned disco lovers who created acid house out of primitive synthesizers, Motor City mavericks who saw the drum machine as their escape route out of urban neglect, and a generation of British youth who transformed these blips and bleeps into dance floor anthems of their own alienation.
Modulations provides a sense of history and context in which today's electronic music can be understood. It entertains the converted and remixes the mindset of electronica's nay-sayers.
Featuring a stunning collage of interviews, cutting-edge visuals, in-studio footage and live performances, Modulations moves at a pace that matches the energy and innovation of the music.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Rwandan genocide resulted in the death of at least 800,000 people. In a matter of months in early 1994, Hutus slaughtered the majority of the country's Tutsi population, despite the fact that the two groups had long lived side-by-side. However, amid these terrible acts of violence, incredible stories of humanity also emerged. Many Hutus, defying ethnic divisions, risked their lives by hiding Tutsi neighbors in their homes. In 2008, Tutsis who were saved reunited with those neighbors who put their lives on the line and rejected violence. This short film interviews both Hutus and Tutsis as they recall incredible acts of humanity that took place even during the darkest days of the genocide.
