@blazefan - Well yr son would say that, it's the generation gap. Mind you, i think it's an incredibly irritating record but it does remind me of a special guy i used to chat to online who used to put it on in his family's pub ALL THE TIME !

I love playing this to people 'blind'..i.e. 'guess who this is then ?' Usually they have no idea..I think it really kicks butt ! Fab.

I used to have that 'Mustang' cheapo LP too, as a kid..this was my fave track...so tuneful and catchy.

More haunting piano and vocals here....for those who don't know, the Desperate Character LP (from which this was taken) was re-released, with a few tracks added and others taken away, in the 80s...now's the time to give us the whole damn lot on one CD !!

What an amazing talent she was / is.....gritty yet vulnerable, sassy yet sensitive - a survivor thru' so many ups and downs until that horrific, tragic end.

This samples 'Stay With Me Til Dawn'/Judie Tzuke and 'Muskrat Love'/America....works so well.

I don't think it makes you insane just because you don't happen to like a piece of music. Personally I adore Kate. And I think this most recent work (including 'Aerial') is her finest ever.

I find this album a bit uneven...some titantic moments such as This Woman's Work and Love And Anger, but some rather ugly 80s drum sounds elsewhere. And I felt that when she modified things on The Directors Cut, it was a missed opportunity. Much prefer 'Aerial', esp. the 2nd disc, the finest work...

I bought it in '71 as a kid....and have just got it on a CD Single. Great lil track. Given that 'Papa would have shot him' for getting her pregnant, I wonder what the men got when they laid their money down ?

Still got my 45 from when it was no.1.....well OK, it was the B-Side of 'If Paradise...' I think it's strong enough to be an A-Side. The sax sound is not unlike Dexy's Midnight Runners. Dig that Immediate label baby !

The difference between this and the original is that this is less cluttered...always felt they overdid things just a bit originally on this, his most famous track. Now it has space to breathe as he 'winds his way down'.....God bless Gerry.

Always thought this owed something to 'Mouldy Old Dough' by Lieutenant Pigeon, which came out several months before this. Sweet lil tune though.

As a major Beatles/McCartney fan....I would have to say this is the most stunning thing he's done for YEARS !!

Loved this when I got into 'Catch Us If You Can'.....the visuals work like a pop video, but it's taken straight out of the film. One of my fave 60s beat group films, capturing the wildness of youth. Now I'm 50...well, the memories of mine linger on !!

Proud to say I have a genuine 1968 UK copy, which I ordered when they announced that Apple was winding up in 1976...turned out not to be strictly true !

Heard this by chance on the radio in 1990 and invested in the 12" single. All 3 tracks (also 'Room Without A View' and 'Maria Elena') are fab. The album's pretty good too ! P.S. A friend pointed out the similarity to 'In My Life' by The Beatles in the instrumental break...but hey, nothing wrong w...

My fave Andy Williams track..I remember it in the singles charts......great song, great voice.

Syd Barrett-ish, obscure psychedelic classic 45. Great to see this original Page One copy too - the sort of thing that gets me excited !!

I'm a major ELO/Lynne fan, and in my humble opinion this is possibly his finest vocal performance....especially when he sings 'standing on an island....'..just goes into the stratosphere. Loads of interesting bits in the backing track too...

I have this too - I love the song in this longer form, gives the backing track a chance to breathe.

Must admit, I looked pretty cool in the rushes....but story of my m8's life, he never finished it up ! I first heard the 45 at Uni on a tape when it was new....managed to grab a copy of the vinyl, even though it was already deleted by then.

Why the hell this was never released as a single is beyond me......great track from a great album.

What a beautiful 60s tune....sounds str8 out of a movie, even if it wasn't ! An obscure gem.

Stunning track.......takes my breath away, and moves me in a really deep way.

Another of the interesting jazzy instrumentals to be found on most of the Wizzard singles. Regardless of who wrote them, Roy Wood's unique style always shines through...you just wonder which parts he's playing ! How often do you hear electric sitar and saxes together ?

Those who remember 'Mouldy Old Dough' will be surprised by how different this is. Thumbs up from me.

Disco-tastic stuff from those fab Huggy Flares...takes me right back to the 70s, when everything went boom-slap, boom-slap with 'hissing snake' hi-hats....Is that Sly Stone on guitar, bet he never thought he'd end up in Bishops Stortford...(nobody does, but it happens sometimes).
