Jarek (Jerry) Slagowski has over 30 years of experience in combat sports and self defense. He holds black belts in karate and judo and is a certified boxing coach with USA Boxing, Inc. He was born and raised in city of Elblag in northern Poland. At age 14 he started to train in judo, and soon after started training in Kyokushin Karate in the Elblag Combat Sports Club. While practicing karate, he also became interested in western boxing, and began to study that art as well. Showing almost unheard of natural ability, Jarek was soon competing in the world-famous full contact Kyokushin Karate Tournaments and Championships in Europe. In addition, Jerry and his colleagues competed in the sport karate of World Union of the Karatedo Organizations.

At that time, the new combat sport of kickboxing was becoming very popular all over the world. Jarek Slagowski was one of the pioneers of the sport in Poland. In 1983, while still actively competing, Jerry became a professional trainer at the Elblag Combat Sports Club sponsored by the Sport Department of the national government. Jerry quickly found he was a gifted teacher. In 1986, Jerry and his Club Team won the Polish Karate Championship at the Nationals, and the Silver Medal at the Polish Kickboxing Nationals.

Jerry quickly became known as a world-class instructor. He had the rare combination of being someone who won tournaments, as well as having the ability to teach his students to win. He became so highly regarded, the Army hired him to be a Combat Instructor with the Reconnaissance Unit. In addition, he and his instructors developed extensive self defense programs for men and women taught at the Elblag Combat Sports Club.

In 1989 Jarek Slagowski came to the United States. He lived in Bayonne, New Jersey where he opened a Combat Sports School at the YMCA. While running the Combat Sports School, Jerry competed in many bare-knuckles karate tournaments like the American Open in Rochester, NY. Having a desire to constantly master new disciplines, he also trained in Thai boxing.

While living in Bayonne, Jerry worked part time as a bouncer. The club was in a very rough section, and it was not uncommon for several fights to break out on a nightly basis. He was often confronted with more than one opponent, sometimes with beer bottles, stools, or pool sticks (as well as the occasional knife) as weapons. In that environment, you quickly learn which techniques are effective and which are not, because one mistake could possibly cost you your life.

In 1998, after moving to central New Jersey, Jerry opened the Senki Gym at the Health & Racquetball Club in Green Brook, NJ (later becoming the Eclipse Center). In Green Brook, Jerry has trained competitive fighters for boxing, kickboxing, and submission grappling. In addition, he is the corner man for his fighters as well as other professional fighters. He also teaches people who practice combat sports primarily for the outstanding fitness benefits.

His students compete at boxing, kickboxing, and UFC events as well as Grapplers Quest and NAGA tournaments. They achieved various honors from winning the silver medal at the USA WKA Nationals to making it to the New Jersey Golden Gloves finals.

During the years in Green Brook, Jerry developed specialized self defense programs that he taught at the gym. Individualized programs were designed both for men and women for protection and survival in attack situations.
