I live in a little city way up north called Yellowknife. Born and raised up here. Been playing guitar now for a few years now, and I'm starting to build up a collection of pedals. But I'll get to that later. My first guitar was given to me by my older cousin, who played guitar as well. It was an old sunburst acoustic that I believe was bought at Sears or something, was pretty cheap quality. But he taught me how to play 'The Man Who Sold The World' by David Bowie. Didn't know who Bowie was 'cause I thought that it was by Nirvana - as it played on the MTV Unplugged CD. About drove my folks insane playing that song over and over. So they figure that an electric guitar had a volume knob on it so it can be played quietly. Thus I recieved my first electric guitar that Christmas. That guitar was a $400 Fender Strat and a Crate 20w amp. That was a first for me. I learned to mute my string when I played w/ dist on that thing. That's when a friend introduced to a band that called themselved Korn. And their guitar sounded so much heavier than mine and it really bummed me out because I couldn't figure out how to make my guitar sound like that. I didn't even know anything about drop tuned guitars let alone a 7-string.

Then I read an article with Korn, which they explain how to baritone your guitar. I don't remeber what the date was on it, but a I still have the page that I tore out. So I went out and bought a set of string along w/ a .60 bass string and a DOD Supra Distortion pedal, and baritoned my guitar and chucked the high E string. And I tuned that sucker down to A,D,G,C,F,A and tuned my acoustic to D,G,C,F,A,D. Then I started to learn some Korn tunes with that guitar setting.

About a year later I saved up enough money for my first 7-string. It was a red Ibanez RG-7(something?) 7-string from Giovanni Yamaha store in West Edmonton Mall. By that time, my neck on that ole Fender looked like a bow and arrow, and sounded awful. Sold that to some kid, which I later regret. He probably thought that he sounded like crap and quit playing, oh well.

After a while I came to a point where I really did not have enough time to play guitar anymore, so after a year or two of just sitting there, I sold my gear to some buddies.

But lately I've just got back into playing, and I lost some of my playing chops, which I'm still trying to regain. So one income tax season, I bought my current amplifier - Marshall MG seried 50w DFX. And I also put a down payment on my current guitar - Epiphone Zakk Wylde Signature Buzzsaw loaded w/ EMG-HZ pickups. My girlfriend actually paid the tab on my guitar, so I walked away with a new setup that has a tone that I am truly satisfied with.

Since then I have bought a few pedals: Boss V-WAH w/ 8 different wah types; Dunlop Crybaby Wah; Dunlop Zakk Wylde Custom Wah; Boss RC-2 Loop Station; DOD Supra Distortion; Marshall JH-1 The Jackhammer; BBE Crusher Hi-Gain Distortion; MXR Wylde Overdrive; Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster; Line 6 Uber Metal; Two DOD 7-band Equilizers; Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion; and finally my favorite distortion pedal is the Rocktron Silver Dragon Tube Distortion.

I've been planning on getting another acoustic and either a ESP JH Truckster guitar or another Ibanez 7-string (Korn signature) in the near future, if not I'll just order an 81 EMG active pickup as well as a 60 EMG active pickup. Also a new amp, 'cause I really like the sound of an all-tube amplifier. I'm after that tone of the dudes that playing the band 'Hellyeah' that is a wicked distortion tone. So an all tube combo amp, not a whole stack or anything. Those Rivera Knucklehead TRE Combo amps are wicked, check out their website at: www.rivera.com for some sound samples.

My favorite guitar tuning is a half step down to Eb. 'Cause if I want to play heavy like System Of A Down, I just drop D then I'm in C#.

I never took any lessons for guitar, just learned on the internet. I know hardly anything on chord progressions or theory. I do know a couple of scales and some modes. So I'm a really crappy improvisor. But I've matured since I first started playing, so I'll actually try and remeber some of the stuff that I learned. Anyways, pass me a beer - CHEERS!!!
