i had that same problem to. but what i did was switch games that actually works. for example if my brawl disc does not work, i get a different game that works, then i switch back to brawl and then it works fine.

Wario was about to finish the mini game and beat the course, he was around floor 97 and going up still (elevator was moving) then he screwed up and got hit by a missile. i did the secret exit a different way. i went to the end of the level of the mario bros level, went up two pipes, went to where the trampoline was, then jumped to the right and got to the pipe for the secret.
