Author Sam Gosling visits Google's headquarters in Mountain View, CA, to discuss his book
Author Sam Gosling visits Google's headquarters in Mountain View, CA, to discuss his book "Snoop: What Your Stuff Says About You". This event took place June 17, 2008, as part of the authors@google series.
Does what's on your desk reveal what's on your mind? Do those pictures on your walls tell true tales about you? And is your favorite outfit about to give you away? For the last ten years psychologist Sam Gosling has been studying how people project (and protect) their inner selves. By exploring our private worlds (desks, bedrooms, even our clothes and our cars), he shows not only how we showcase our personalities in unexpected-and unplanned-ways, but also how we create personality in the first place, communicate it others, and interpret the world around us. Gosling, one of the field's most innovative researchers, dispatches teams of scientific snoops to poke around dorm rooms and offices, to see what can be learned about people simply from looking at their stuff.
Sam Gosling is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He has spent the last decade conducting research on how personality is expressed and perceived in everyday contexts. He has been profiled by the New York Times, Psychology Today, and other publications, and he is featured in Malcolm Gladwell's Blink. This is his first book. He lives in Austin, Texas.

The Authors@Google program was pleased to welcome author and professor George Lakoff to Google's New York office to discuss his new book, "The Political Mind".
George Lakoff is Richard and Rhoda Goldman Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics at the University of California at Berkeley and Senior Fellow at the Rockridge Institute, a think tank in Berkeley, CA. He is author of "Don't Think of an Elephant!", "Moral Politics", "Whose Freedom?", and coauthor of "Thinking Points: A Progressive's Handbook", as well as many books and articles on cognitive science and linguistics. In this talk Professor Lakoff speaks about his latest work The Political Mind: Why You Can't Understand 21st-Century American Politics with an 18th-Century Brain. In "What's the Matter with Kansas?", Thomas Frank pointed out that a great number of Americans actually vote against their own interests. In "The Political Mind", George Lakoff explains why.

This is probably the cleanest (content wise) thing I have and ever will do. I had a friend of mine score the whole thing. I think it really added another layer to it. During the topless scenes Kristen is wearing a rainbow tube top. I could tell it was really akward for her to imagine being naked and to visualize a black bar that wasn't there but she pulled it off really well. I usually don't stick to an original script when it comes to shooting. If the actor of actress says "I don't think my character would do this" or "I think the character would do it this way" I usually let them run with it. A good actor thinks about how their character would relate to a situation and not just blindly remembering their lines. I think a good director asks questions more then he gives direction. Letting the actor figure it out for themselves rather then just telling them what to do. Censored relied a lot on the main actress to be funny and it's yet to not get a laugh out of people. I think Kristen acted it perfect and I wouldn't have changed a thing about her performance. I always think that it's got to be difficult for an actor or actress to act when alone on screen. The music in this is great. I met the musician at a party and she mentioned that she did music. I asked her if she wanted to help me out with some music for this short that I was doing and she jumped on the opportunity to do. I dropped off the short, she called me and told me she was done I went to her house to check it out. What she did for it knocked me on my ass. First off I didn't expect it to be as amazing as it was. Second I didn't think she was going to score the entire movie. What she came up with in my opinion was brilliant. After editing a short and watching it for the 30 billionth time it's hard to find it funny when watching it again. I laughed hystericially at it when I saw what the very talented musician had done to it. She is a great musician and you can check out her music here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewpro file&friendid=86562781

The Order Electrus
Nature adapts, even to human actions that seem to destroy everything.
The amazing power of evolution has given birth to a new species of insect. Their ideal habitats are old industrial locations. Some call them electrical insects, others simply speak of a miraculous phenomenon,or even better, a self supporting order; The Order Electrus.
