First I've heard of Hank playing anything from "Rodeo Radio" in a very, very long time.

Didn't think I'd ever hear "Plastic Palmtrees" again. One of my favourites and much missed. Many seasoned Hankerers used to look at me blankly when I mentioned it so good to know that it wasn't all an hallucination.

I think this is the Brixton Academy gig which was filmed for television. If not, Hammersmith Odeon. But hey, it was all a long time ago.

I'm lucky enough to say that I did see him in his prime, several times on this tour and on others too. The same venue had Meat on for 2 nights doing this set and then Deep Purple on for the next 2, when the guitarist famously threw a hissy fit and the band went on stage without him. I was at them...

He's always had a tendency to be a bit flat when tired. Losing a lorry load of flab a few years later did wonders for his stage performances though.

They fell out. Hank now tours village halls with Andy Roberts.

Great to see more of this gig. Wish I'd been there. Looks and sounds like a real humdinger.

The "back up chicks" are Amy & Elaine Goff> They did about 3 tours with Meat Loaf in the late '80s/early '90s before Patti Russo came along. They're still around and singing. New York based I think.

Never understood why Sleepy isn't more commercially known. He's an astonishing performer who appeals to rockabilly fans as much as country ones. And he's kept company with the best. Just not had as much success.

Only someone with a huge voice can pull this sort of song off, which is why so many others have failed. My admiration for this woman only grows.

This takes me back. Saw Lick the Tins quite a few times when they were gigging regularly in London. They even got on the Radio 1 playlist, which was a major achievement at that time of awful DJs and wall to wall shite. It didn't happen for them and they packed it.

I've got the album and this isn't on it. Must be a different version. I saw this as a single in a shop but didn't buy it at the time and regretted it. So nice to hear it again.

My favourite Roy Orbison song. There's something distinctly odd going on with his hair and it was a mistake to have Bruce Springsteen cluttering up the place with so many other guitarists around but otherwise this is perfection.

Ah, I heard about this but never saw it. Hank certainly always had good female singers. Never knew about Darlene but she certainly belts it out.

Don't know why it took so long for him to include this in his live sets. A real tempo changer. Love it.

Really love this version even if his voice is past its best. The vocal jousting and Aspen Miller's, in his face attitude works wonderfully well. Shame it couldn't all be one clip.

This is pretty much the orginal version which I liked. He's done some horrendous versions over the years that sound nothing like this and I'm not sure why since it ought to be a highlight of any show.

Given how much raw footage is one here already, it's going to be pretty obvious if they've doctored the sound, as they surely will.

I always liked Dead Ringer and thought that there were several stand out tracks. But it seems rather forgotten.

This sounded rubbish on the album but what energy live. I was pretty young at the time but those Goffs still look foxy.

Looks like the official Dead Ringer tour video to me. Vocals are a lot better than what he's doing now, even though he'd lost his voice completely around the time they were trying to record the album. Given that he's asthmatic, I can't help thinking that he was much better as a live perfomer once...

I've never seen any footage of the original tour but would like to. This performance is awful but I think more because it's at the end of a show, he's cream crackered and he had huge vocal problems around this time. I've seen him perform this much, much better. Nice to see this stuff. I've never seen or heard him do this song live. Why, I'm not sure as it would seem to be suited to live performance and not especially taxing vocally. Good memories.

He always was sweaty and dribbling by the end of a show. But I agree about the karaoke. If you saw this in a pub you'd laugh. But people are being asked to pay a lot of money and expecting to see a professional performance. I know he probably needs the money but his people should tell him to pack...

It's funny seeing him recreate his late 1970s stage look again. And Aspen Miller does a good job of filling in for the incomparable Patti Russo. There's no denying she looks fantastic. His voice is on the wane but still better than it is now and he still puts on a show.

Great stuff. I'm guessing from the size of the stage that this is from one of the small gigs he did when he was trying to climb the greasy pole again after his career hit the skids. Great energy, good band and the period when he was at his best as a live performer I think.
