I have been studying Yang Style Tai Chi since I lived in London in 1985. Prior to that I did the usual stuff as a kid, Judo with Mr Sangwin in Hornsea, Karate...The last club I was in was based at Covent Garden in London and the the style was taught by the 'Inshallah' school of Karate..It was quite a Hard style and we did full contact competitions, without any safety equipment other than sparing mitts. Further to this and due to some injuries in the process in 1987 I started learning a more Soft and Internal Martial Art eg: Tai Chi...I was taught intially by an American chap and attended classes in Soho , London. Once I learned the basics I spent 3 Years learning the Yang Style by Master Chia Siew Pang, his Master was Cheng Mun Ch'ng....Whereas Yang Cheng-Fu the grandson of Yang Lu-ch'an taught a set of moves about 81, Cheng Mun Ch'ng updated this style and weeded out the repetitive and impractical moves..He did however retained the essence of the art by neither introducing any new moves nor attempting to change Yang Cheng-Fu's interpretation. This form closely resembles the original form... After 3 years of study I managed to complete the entire form. Along the way I have studied other aspects of Chinese martial arts including Hsing Yi Chuan, mainly concentrating on the Five Fists...Shaolin Chin Na (Joint Control).Yang Chi Kung..I joined Mr Sangwins daughter Angela around 2006 and studied through her World Budo Kai club in and spent some time learning their Shaolin Tai Chi style, this was handed down to them by a Tibetan Monk exiled in Sri Lanka,,,It had some Tai Chi elements but it was a Hard style interpretation and very Shaolin in its nature...Further to this I have studied Chinese herbs and applications as well as TCM. Zeng Shin Katsu a form of Shiatsu and other alternative healing therapies..I was recently gifted a Tai Chi Sword by a friend who was taking a vow of non violence and being ordained as a Zen Buddhist..So I studied the Tai Chi sword for a while through Erle Montaigues teachings. . I have been fortunate in all my martial arts training to have had some great guides and teachers with Judo when i was a kid I was taught by a legend now in my home region Norman Sangwin and his daughter introduced me in recent years to Shaolin Martial Arts as taught to her late Husband Wayne Short by a Shaolin Monk living in Sri Lanka. Along with all my guides and teachers I have recentley met Erle Montaigue of the WTBA (World Tai Chi Boxing Association)and he has taught me many aspects of Tai Chi and consolidated a lot of my learning in a short space of time. With our communications and with the help of his writings and DVD materials. In essence Tai Chi is a modern term for what used to be called H'ao Ch'uan (Loose Boxing) , now a student would learn this form basically an internal art and then specialise in either Bagua or Hsing I, i guess i specialised in Hsing I first as I am just learning Bagua. However I also learned a style called Fa-Jing from Erle that is also called 'Small Frame' Tai chi, evidently very hard to learn and teach due to its Internal nature and I agree after working with this system. But the combination of Fa-Jing and Bagua would give you a fighting form that has no equal especially with a focus on the dim mak points...The keys to these artforms are with there you just need experts like Erle and fellow WTBA instructors to unlock your potential, have fun....and remember you only need one hand to clap with:) I have uploaded the first two thirds of Erle Montaigues Yang Lu'Chan Tai Chi form, Erle is the keeper of this style etc...Sorry I forgot to mention my Qi Gong as well:)Age
