Congresswoman Mazie Hirono champions education, renewable energy, environmental issues, and a responsible withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. She has represented Hawaiis 2nd Congressional District since 2007. The Congresswoman's district includes rural Oahu and the Neighbor Islands. During the her first term, Congresswoman Hirono earned positions on key U.S. House Committees that highlight her legislative priorities: the Committee on Education and Labor, the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, as well as the Committee on Small Business.

After graduation, she returned to Hawaii where she served as a Deputy Attorney General before entering private practice. In 1980, the people of Moiliili and McCully elected Hirono to the Hawaii State House of Representatives. In1994, the people of Hawaii elected her as the states 9th Lieutenant Governor, a position she held for two terms.

Congresswoman Hirono is married to Leighton Kim Oshima.
