"Make A Better Day" was prepared as a special tribute to science, technology and President Obama upon the occasion of the 2nd Annual Presidential Science Fair, held in the White House on February 7, 2012.
Representing the Society for Science and the Public (SSP) and the Broadcom MASTERS Science Fair, and also nominated by the Maker Faire, Ben Hooker Hylak, creator of the award-winning MAYA Armed Telepresence Robot, was invited to participate in this elite fair which honors America's brightest young scientists and engineers.
President Obama graciously viewed this video in the State Dining Room as part of his one-on-one interview with Benjamin. President Obama highly praised the scope and application of this project and its young inventor, and highlighted both in his remarks to the press later that morning.
"Some of you are here because you saw a problem in your community, and you're trying to do something to solve it," President Obama said. "Benjamin Hylak -- where's Benjamin? There's Benjamin right here -- was worried that folks at his grandmother's senior center were getting lonely. So he built a robot with a monitor and a video camera, so it's like a moving Skype. And it moves around the center, and it allows seniors to talk to their kids and their grandkids, even when they can't visit in person. So inventions like Benjamin's could make life better for millions of families."
While tracking the amazing progress on this nationally-honored robot, this video juxtaposes the daily duty and passionate drive of one teenager in his quest to "make a better day" with a low-budget invention that could directly impact the health care industry, alongside the grueling though vital efforts of lawmakers and legislatures to work together -- to "make a better day".
"The Broadcom Foundation has partnered with the Society for Science and the Public (SSP) to sponsor and run science fairs, which will involve over 100,000 students from over 350 SSP science fairs around the nation..."
CONGRATULATIONS to the 30 ALUMNI FINALISTS of the "Class of 2011" FIRST ANNUAL BROADCOM MASTERS NATIONAL SCIENCE FAIR!!
Thank you to the Broadcom Foundation and the Society for Science and the Public for this encouraging program setting young scientists on the path to becoming future leaders and innovators.
Thank you to the MAKER Faire and the MAKE movement for encouraging science, invention, thinking and passion on so many levels.
Please support the Broadcom MASTERS by encouraging science fair participation in your area in conjunction with the Society for Science and the Public.

Lyrics:
Make a Better Day
If ever the time be one... to stand beneath the Son Holding hands together -- we can pray, we can pray... Doing all that we can for our fellow man Together, we can make a, make a better day...
(chorus) All through the years we've seen nothing but fear All together, we can make a, make a better day...
And now that the time be one -- so much work to be done! Together, we can build it, day by day, day by day... Yeah, we can be one, whose love shines like the Son! Together, we can make a, make a better day...
(chorus)
Ohhh! Make it better! Day by day, day by day, day by day... Make it better! Ohhh! Better! Ohhh!!!
(repeat verse and chorus)

Who's on your caller ID?
If the name "God" showed up, would you rush to answer...?
Or... would you possibly hesitate, wondering what He could want... or need to tell you?
Or maybe... would you avoid the call altogether, thinking it's been too long, too difficult... and that the call would be too emotional, too much of an effort, to even bother answering...?
Every day, in so many ways, this is exactly what happens. Maybe we don't take as much notice as we should, but messages, people, signs and events happening around and through us are all moments of "God Calling" to each one of us, in different ways and with different levels of urgency as we make our way through life.
The lyrics of "God Calling" present a powerful challenge:
God calling YOU Is the line busy? Is your mind busy? God calling YOU... Are you listening... or just existing...?
Packed with contemplative and soul-searching tracks such as "Lord, Here I Am," "A Change of Heart" and "Don't Be Afraid," all set to the mellow backdrop of award-winning singer/songwriter Joseph Lee Hooker's penetrating and unforgettable vocal quality, "God Calling" will leave you wanting to answer...
God Calling sets the mood for an inspirational journey of looking inside, listening outside and finding the TRUE voice to guide our step.
"God Calling" from the CD "God Calling" by Joseph Lee Hooker. Available on itunes, amazon.com, etc.
(Production of the "God Calling" music video is currently on hold until the necessary resources to license video clips and images are available. Clips/images awaiting licensing are appropriately "watermarked" in this demo version.)
*** Grammy Award Winning Producer Phil Nicolo shares the following perspective on this thought-provoking release:
"Listen carefully to God Calling. You'll hear beautiful melodies, wonderful lyrics, and a passionate voice, that of Joseph Lee Hooker.
"The most important thing you'll hear is a man who's deeply in love with God, and who sings because he feels afraid of who he was, grateful for how far he has come, and compelled to share that with others.
"He sings, too, as a way to keep moving forward...
"It's all these things that make Joseph Hooker's music so special. Listen carefully..."
