A video journal of my road to the ironman. A way for me to chronicle my journey, increase accountability for meeting my stated goal, and hopefully, inspire others to stay their course.

On Saturday I ran in the Crim Festival of races in Flint, MI. They've been having that race in Flint since 1977 when Bobby Crim started it to help raise money for Special Olympics. They have a variety of events like a 5k walk / Run, 8k walk / run 10 mile walk / run, as well as a 10 mile wheeler event for athletes in wheel chairs and a 1 mile run for kids. This year they had about 16,000 participants!

My daughter has been getting back into shape and she participated in the 5k event. She did very well for her first race, finishing 18 out of 60 in her age group and 411 out of 1229 overall. (...proud father here )

I was shooting for a finishing time of 1:30 and I was close. My official time was 1:35:43 / 9:35 min. per mile pace. A little short of the goal, but I was very pleased given the number of hills on the course, 85 degree air temp and high humidity.

I finished 284 out of 498 in my age group, and overall I finished 2617 out of 7238...

I just picked up my new road bike today and Man, is it suhweet!!! I can't wait to get it out on the road and see how fast it can go!

But for now it's off to the gym for weight training.

Well, the Hanson HIlls 5 mile Challenge was tough to say the least. My view of what classifies as a hill is completely changed!

Now I'm focused on my first ever triathlon, coming up in two weeks. Yesterday I put together a bike and run. In a few days I hope to get in my first practice tri, puting the three events together and getting a feel for the transition from swim to bike and bike to run.

It's Friday - 24hrs to race time.

This week I dropped more time on my 800m swim, getting it down to 21:50. I lifted weights heavy Tue. & Wed and yesterday I got in a 30min. bike followed by a 30min. run.

I'm taking extra protien to speed recovery between workouts, but this morning I'm feeling stiff and sore in spots. I'll be going to the gym later for some moderate lifting and stretching. Maybe I'll be able to work out the kinks.

Yesterday I swam 800m in the pool in 24:10. That's not very fast, but it took me 5 minutes longer just last Friday, and this time I was able to go the distance without taking breaks floating on my back.

I'm hoping to shave off another 3-5 minutes by next Monday.

Tuesday had a good 4 mile tempo run at 8:30 per mile pace.

Wednesday had a weight lifting session and completed the half mile in the pool. I didn't time it yet - just trying to get the distance first, working on technique and breathing.

This afternoon will be Split training: 2 x 1600, 4 x 800, 4 x 400
It's going to be brutal, but necessary if I want to increase my speed.

Strive to be more!
