The sun was rising over the horizon of the tall and menacing Colorado Mountains. Twilight Ridge Equestrian Center is a place were horses live, to be honorable champions. Lily pulled her boots on and tied her hair into a ponytail. The grass crunched under her feet with dew. Horses were grazing on the many acres of land and pasture that they owned. Her horses were grazing with Domino and Stardust. It was good to see Stardust getting along with the others, being so new here at the center. Time for training, Stardust. She called to her horse. Stardust reared up in fright and galloped over to the pond, and stood, watching her, the whites of his eyes showing, ears flat against his beautiful head. Nakota, Crystal Realms foal, whinnied and bucked around playfully. Lily reached out a hand to scratch Nakota behind his ears. He jerked his head away, made a small rear, and raced towards the other foals. She started to walk slowly towards Stardust, who was watching her every move. Once she was close enough, she sat on a rock and fumbled threw her pocket. She found a carrot dipped in molasses. Want a treat, boy? She asked the skittish horse. He neighed and bobbed his head, mystical mane shaking. Lily held out the carrot and the horse started moving towards her, stepping back as he came closer. He slowly reached out his strong head and grabbed the carrot. As he did so, Lily snapped a lead rope on. Still munching, Stardust was lead away and into the barn.

Stardust tossed his head as he trotted. Lily posted up and down and brought him into a canter. Jumps were set up in the arena. He flew over them, not touching one. Wonderful, Lily! Just wonderful! a voice said. Lily slowed Stardust into a halt. Hey, Jake. She said, looking into her boyfriends crystal blue eyes. You two are bonding. It seems like just yesterday he was the scared horse that wouldnt even look at a human! he said, smiling that wonderful smile of his. Lily hopped off Stardust and led him over to the door. Yeah. I better go put him away and groom him. She said over her shoulder as she walked away, Stardust flicking his black tail. Stardust was a lean Akhal-teke with a shining golden coat and black mane and tail. Lily led him into the stable hall, clipped him with two lead ropes on each side of the wall and loosened the girth and popped the English riding saddle off him. His coat shined with sweat. You were a good boy today, werent you? I think you deserve a treat. She told him as she pulled out some sugar cubs and fed them to him. She dampened a sponge with cool water and rubbed it over his sweaty body. She dabbed a little water over his head. She brushed his mane and tail until it was silky smooth, then his coat. Once she was finished with that, she grabbed the hoof pick and picked up Stardusts left fore-leg and cleaned it. She repeated this with the other hooves as well. Good boy. She cooed to him, rubbing his neck. She unclipped him and led him to the paddock. She unhooked his lead rope and watched the other horses prick their ears and whinny a greeting to him. Salpicado bounded over to his friend and resumed his grazing with him. You two, what are we going to do with you? she asked as she turned and walked to Jake who was washing Nakota, with suds in the colts mane and coat. Almost done, you silly little foal! he laughed as he rinsed the wet foal. He dried him with a towel, but he was still soaked, so he put a blanket over him and let him out in the field. So, Jake said, brushing his hand through his shady black hair. Wanna go to lunch, Lily? he asked her, smiling. Sure. She said as they started to walk away. Jake hopped into the truck and Lily did the same.
