Of all the incarnations of Holmes/Watson I can think of none that I revisit more than the 1990's Merrison/Williams depiction on BBC Radio. Until I discovered them at the end of the 90's I'd always been put off Sherlock Holmes adaptations by the quasi Gothic horror modern directors always tried to cloak them in-a kind of Stephen King meets The Duchess of Duke Street! The Coules radio canon however was superb at concentrating on the actual stories; making them the straightforward pithy crime thrillers that they really were. The words which convey these stories are superbly delivered by Merrison. He makes the series the definitive interpretation for me, great for dipping into on winter days beside a crackling fire.

Ah, CliveMerrisonFan - I've had a marvellous lust-fest over your uploads of The Man. Fan-bloomin'-tastic. I first came across Clive through the Sherlock Holmes radop programmes (and The SitCrom) so fell in love with the voice first (and the diabolical laugh in particular) but I've really enjoyed seeing all the stuff you've uploaded. You've obviously done your homework thoroughly! Thanks loads for sharing and for the invitation :)

Curses on Channel 4 for blocking your Peep Show clip. CM was brilliant in it.

You're welcome :)
I just think that Clive Merrison's a great actor - and I agree with you, he's definitely the best Sherlock Holmes (or at leats, the best I've ever heard). I mean, he even actually looks rather like the original illustrations of Holmes by Sidney Paget. It's a pity he never played Holmes on the silver screen...
