"The world of dance, classical ballet & opera feature mainly in my art, inspired by my lifelong love of theatre.

"I graduated from Blackpool School of Art, in the late fifties & then through the sixties and seventies worked for magazines and national newspapers including The Manchester Guardian - I came to London and began a career as an art director in advertising and television, while continuing with my books and illustration for major agencies - Young & Rubicam, J.Walter Thompson, amongst others.

"During this time, I also had the opportunity to study for some years at Camden Arts Centre , influenced by the tutor Caribbean painter Aubrey Williams, who inspired my love of vibrant colours, the theme of much of his work interpreting the music of Shostakovitch."

A major part of Charlotte Fawley's working life since then has been involved in theatre, namely ballet and opera where she continues to sketch at rehearsals at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, as an invited artist.

This is where Charlotte has had the opportunity to draw some of the greatest dancers and singers in the world today including Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, Jose Cura, Angela Gheorghiu and dancers Darcey Bussell, Irek Mukhamedov and many others.

Her exhibitions also include studies of dancers of The Kirov and Bolshoi companies.

She was recently appointed artist-in residence for Artsworld Presentations and was invited to be the official artist for the acclaimed Mikhailovsky Russian Ballet during their season at The London Coliseum in 2008.

This company, brought over from St Petersburg by Gavin Roebuck of Arts Management & Publicity, thrilled London audiences with their new production of 'Spartacus'.

Some of her paintings from that exciting ballet are shown in one of the galleries on this site and were presented on stage to general director, Vladimir Kekhman, artistic director, Faruhk Ruzimatov and Alexander Arkhipov, Head of Cultural Affairs.

She has designed a collection of greeting cards this year for Stage Presence called 'Invitation to the Dance'.

Her current exhibition is in London at ISTD dance studios in Old Street and she has designed brochures for the IDTA dance teachers association plus the Australian ATD.

In addition to her work in the theatre, she had the opportunity to experience drawing live in front of a TV camera.

"I had the advantage of working with a superb team, particularly, TV producer, Dick Foster, on a series about drawing."

"This was a BBC2 film entitled, 'Making Their Mark' (1990) I am seen in action drawing dancers as well as soldiers on manoeuvres - a reconstruction of my graphics for NewsNight's coverage of The Falklands War."
