About ChalkedUp
Welcome to Chalked Up. Most of what's here is gymnastics videos back from when I used to compete. But I've also included 2 fictional short films I've made recently. BAD DAY and THE GYMNAST.
Enjoy.

Lets see...where to start?Well, I was a gymnast for a long time. My entire childhood was pretty much gymnastics. The high point being when I won the 1986 USA Championships, less than a year after breaking my femur at World Championships in Montreal in October of 1985 (which was pretty much the low point). After winning USAs, things went downhill. I found it hard to be on top. I preferred underdog status.
When I finally hung up my handgrips and beamshoes, I went to college. Spent a lot of time being pissed off about gymnastics - all the injuries, the body issues, the crazy coaches and parents that got out of control over the whole affair. Eventually I got over it, grew up and got a job. Got married. Had some kids.
Now, I work at Levi's. I make short films for fun (see them, over there). I've been married for almost 9 years and I have two sons, Virgil and Wyatt. And I wrote a book -a memoir - about the whole gymnastics thing. I like to think of it as a coming of age story that has relevance beyond athletics and gymnastics. Its out now.
Check out all the stuff to the right. Its a collection of old gymnastics meets from the 80s and my two fictional short films - The Gymnast and Bad Day. Thanks, js
