Thank you to Census Staff
Thank you to everyone around Australia who filled out their Census forms.
Your participation in the Census would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the 29 000 Census collectors who delivered 14.2 million forms to more than 9.8 million households.
A thank you must also go to all the Area Supervisors, District Managers and Census staff. Click here to see Paul Lowe, Head of the Population Census Program's video thank you.
Census data will be ready for release in June 2012. Until this time the Data Processing Centre in Melbourne will be tackling the massive task of sorting, analysing and compiling all the Census forms from right across the nation.

I have been recruited as a collector this year. Not revealing any statistics or area information (but I do hope that the Census will highlight this) but I have unexpectedly found a very high percentage of vacant homes in my CLW - And we do have a very high number of homeless families in this area living in cars and garages, etc. Something clearly is very, very wrong. The real estate agents are constantly encouraging rent increases ... on the premise of the apparent housing shortage!?

Dear statisticians, homelessness is a dire problem in Perth and WA, but I am afraid it might not be picked up in the census because people are living in places like cars, on tents, on the beach, at the back of petrol stations, I hope there are other ways to pick them up, because some don't have centrelink either because they don't have the $55 for their birth certificates. I chose not to do eCensus to help give someone a job.

I asked the sheep at the census why the question on religion was optional, to which he replied because it's "sensitive". LMAO. Like my name, where I live, where I work and how much I earn ISN'T. He then said if I give my name and phone number, he will leave a message for the ABS to call me back. I said; no, give me their contact and I will call them myself. He couldn't do that. SO MUCH FOR PRIVACY.

The census is a waste of time and money. The information collected is available to the government through other sources. Most countries only have a census every ten years and many don't bother any more. As for privacy - the collectors are supposed to check the forms for completeness so your information is not private. Many are godbotherers of one sort of another so they could well pass your information on to people you don't want to know anything about you. As for ecensus security - nothing on the intertubes is secure - so forget the hogwash the ABS gives you.

Hi, I called the Census Inquiry Line with a number of questions which they can't answer in relation to privacy of information and my legal obligations. Other than the state and national media relations managers there's no other avenue to ask questions about the census listed on the website. I want to make sure I fulfil my legal obligations but I simply don't understand my obligations and I obviously want to avoid penalties. Given that my concerns are in relation to privacy of information I'd prefer to call the ABS rather than give out my personal details and have them contact me! Who should I contact next and what are their contact details?

Australian Census will never be like the UK. Thank Christ for the 1905 act. Australian Census is for Australians and will never be subcontracted to an American security firm.
